Why Should I Go To The Dentist Regularly?
Regular dental visits are vitally important for a person’s health. As with many things in life it’s much, much easier to handle a small problem than it is to handle a big problem. If a person doesn’t go to the dentist regularly these small problems will develop into large problems. It’s also very important to take care not only of the teeth but of the gums in the area as well. And getting your teeth professionally cleaned will help clean out the areas that you, yourself, may not be able to reach.
We are professionals, after all, and we know where to look for the plaque and the germs that are going to cause the dental diseases that can rob you of your teeth and of your dental health. The other reason to go to the dentist regularly is to look for signs of oral cancer. Again, catching something early makes it much, much more treatable and one of the things we routinely do at our dental exams is look for signs of oral cancer.
You know, it’s interesting people have in their minds that it’s best to go to the dentist twice a year and for a lot of patients that really does work, but there’s really no scientific basis for seeing a dentist twice a year. The see your dentist twice a year phrase actually comes from an old toothpaste commercial, and believe it or not, from that slogan came the practice of seeing a dentist twice a year.
Many patients really do much better seeing the dentist and the dental hygienist more frequently, four times a year, three times a year. It’s really important to have your dentist look and see what’s going to be the best interval for your particular case to keep your mouth healthy, to keep your gums healthy and to help you keep your teeth for the rest of your life.
